RESIDENCE COORDINATOR/ADMINISTRATOR NEEDED STARTING SUMMER 2010

The Menno Simons Centre is a residence for 22 Christian students attending the University of British Columbia and Regent College. The Centre is seeking to employ a married couple, who collectively would be expected to work the equivalent of one individual working three-quarters time. The position of Residence Coordinators is for a minimum of two years. The couple, both of whom are important to the Centre’s community and student life, would live in the one-bedroom suite in the residence. Preference will be given to applicants who have attended university and are familiar with the Anabaptist tradition (e.g., Mennonite, Baptist). The couple is expected to participate in the Point Grey Inter-Mennonite Fellowship which meets at the Centre. The coordinators oversee the room bookings, correspondence, deposits & cheques, building maintenance, Residence Assistants, and weekly community meal. The coordinators are guided by the Menno Simons Centre Committee, which is responsible to the Board of Directors of the Pacific Centre for Discipleship. This position will be available starting July 1 of 2010 but must begin no later than September 1. Duties

The Residence Coordinators/Administrators would oversee the Centre itself, by:

  • being accessible to the students by living in the Centre's 1-bedroom co-ordinators' suite
  • taking care of the Centre's administration (scheduling rooms, collecting & depositing rents & donations, managing expenses, correspondence, etc.)
  • handling routine building maintenance and security issues
  • facilitating the development of an academic, social and spiritual community
  • encouraging the development of student leadership by guiding the Residence Assistants
  • arranging occasional social gatherings and outings for the students
  • hosting the weekly community meal

Expectations

The Residence Coordinators/Administrators reports to the Menno Simons Centre Committee, which is responsible to the Board of Directors of the Pacific Centre for Discipleship Association. The Coordinators are expected to participate in the life of the Point Grey Inter-Mennonite Fellowship which meets in the Chapel.

Compensation

The salary is based on one 3/4ths time position shared between the couple (about 30 hours per week on average). The rent on the 1-bedroom suite is very affordably priced and certain benefits are provided (ask for details during the selection process).
